01Separate discovery from model training
An AI search experience may retrieve current web information to help answer a question. That is different from training the underlying model. Crawler permissions should be reviewed by their purpose, not grouped under one general AI rule.
A visibility review can examine search crawler access and publicly available information. It does not retrain a model or force an assistant to recommend a company. Different providers document different controls; confirm those controls before changing access.
02Make the business unambiguous
Business names, services, locations and contact information should tell a consistent story. Unclear or contradictory facts create confusion for both customers and systems that use web sources.
Review the main website and relevant public profiles for important gaps. Explain the business in normal language. Support experience claims with real examples, named expertise where appropriate and information a reader can verify.
- Clear organization and service descriptions.
- Consistent location and contact information.
- Useful About and service pages.
- Supporting evidence for specific claims.
03Write answers that stand on their own
Answer optimization starts with the questions customers actually ask. Explain who a service suits, what the process involves, what affects price and where limitations apply. Place a useful direct answer near its supporting detail.
Use headings, comparisons and tables when they help the reader. Avoid empty FAQs, repetitive summaries and unsupported claims. A concise answer should remain accurate even when read without the rest of the page.
04Understand Google’s AI search requirements
Google’s published guidance says its SEO fundamentals remain relevant to AI Overviews and AI Mode. It does not require a special AI schema. Eligible pages still are not guaranteed inclusion.
The practical implication is to strengthen access and usefulness instead of treating GEO as a shortcut around SEO. Provider documentation should guide technical decisions; experiments should be labeled as experiments.
05Observe visibility without inventing certainty
Use an agreed prompt set and record which tool, date, location and conditions were used. Save the answer and citation evidence where permitted. Repeat observations to understand variation instead of presenting one answer as a stable ranking.
Report mentions, cited sources and referral traffic separately. A brand mention is not necessarily a recommendation, and a citation does not prove that a visit or sale followed.
- Document prompt wording and test conditions.
- Distinguish a mention from a citation or recommendation.
- Review the accuracy of business facts in answers.
- Keep visibility observations separate from guaranteed outcomes.
